Application and Relevance
This course applies to a wide range of settings where emergencies involving cardiac arrest may occur. It is relevant for people working in education, aged and community care, sport, travel and tourism, hospitality, industry enterprises and other workplace and community settings.
Course Currency Status: current
• 3 hours face-to-face classroom/workplace training and assessment, OR
• 2 hours face-to-face classroom/workplace training and assessment with 1 hour of online/workbook pre-work
This course provides the skills and knowledge to be able to handle cardiac emergency situations.
+ Introduction to first aid principles
+ Assessing a cardiac emergency situation
+ Airway and breathing management
+ Performing chest compressions
+ Administering rescue breaths
+ Resuscitation techniques
+ Using a defibrillator (AED)
There are no prerequisite units. Participants will need the ability to meet the physical demands of providing resuscitation. Participants will also need oral communication skills to make an accurate verbal report to emergency services and workplace supervisor. Prior to the start of face-to-face practical training, there may be a short knowledge quiz to check language, literacy and numeracy skills, as required.
Progressive assessment throughout the course, including demonstration of practical skills and written and oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge.
Note that the provision of CPR must be demonstrated on the floor.
A nationally-recognised Statement of Attainment will be issued to all successful participants.

All students will be enrolled with LivCor—RTO 3586—which will be responsible for the quality of training and assessment provided and for issuing Statements of Attainment for the units on its scope.
This accredited training and assessment will be conducted under LivCor responsibility and direction by Applied First Aid
